Products, options and stock
One thing, several sizes, and keeping count.
A product is the thing; an option is the version of it somebody chooses. A shirt is a product; small, medium and large are options. Each option has its own price, its own stock and its own photograph if you want one.
- Add the productProducts, then Add a product. Name, a line under the name, a description, photographs.
- Describe the choicesIn Options, add “Size” with the values S, M, L. Add a second axis like Colour if you need one.
- Make the combinationsOn the product page, press “Make every combination” and it creates each one. Then set the prices and the stock.
- Publish itChange “On the website” from Not published to On sale.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Keep count of stock | Off means it never sells out. Right for a service or a download; wrong for anything on a shelf. |
| Keep selling when it runs out | Made to order. It stays buyable at zero and the product page says so. |
| Was price | Shown struck through. It has to be higher than the price, because otherwise it is a false claim and in several countries an actionable one. |
| Weight | Only needed if you charge for delivery by weight. |
