Writing a post
From a blank page to something on your website.
Your blog is under Blog in the dashboard. Everything you have ever written is in Posts, newest first, with anything unfinished at the top where you will find it again.
- Press “Write a post”It starts as a draft. Nobody can see a draft but you, so there is no way to publish something by accident while you are still thinking.
- Give it a titleThe web address is made from the title as you type. You can change it, and it is worth shortening a long one — but only before you publish. After that, changing it breaks every link anybody already has.
- Write a summaryOne or two sentences. It is the line under the title on a card, and it is what a search engine shows underneath your post in its results. The first paragraph of a good article is rarely a good summary of it, which is why this is a separate box.
- Write the postHeadings, lists, quotes and links. Underneath the box it tells you roughly how long the post takes to read, which is a quick way to notice that four paragraphs is not really an article yet.
- Add a cover pictureOptional, but it is what makes a card on your home page look like something. You will be asked to describe it — that is not optional, and the reason is in “Photographs”.
- Set the status to PublishedAnd save. It is on your website immediately.
