Delivery and collection
Zones, rates, free over a threshold, and letting people collect.
A zone is a set of countries. A rate is a way of charging for that zone. A basket is offered every rate in the first zone that matches the customer's country, and “everywhere else” catches anything the named zones do not.
| Rate | How it charges |
|---|---|
| One price | The same figure whatever is in the basket. |
| By weight | Applies only when the basket's weight falls in a band you set. Add several bands for a ladder. |
| By basket total | Applies only when the total falls in a band. The other way of doing a ladder. |
| Always free | No carriage, ever. |
| Collected in person | No carriage, and the customer is told where to come and when. |
Any rate can be free above a threshold you set. That is the “spend another $12 and delivery is free” line the basket shows, and it works.
When one thing costs more to post
Some things are awkward. A product can carry an extra charge of its own, added on top of whichever rate the customer picks, for every one of them in the basket. You will find it on the product, under Costs extra to post.
If it also goes in its own box, tick Goes in its own parcel. The extra then still applies even when the order has earned free delivery, because free delivery means free ordinary postage and a second parcel is a second parcel.
Tax, and where you send to
If you work out tax yourself rather than letting Stripe do it, you can say whether your percentage applies everywhere or only to orders going to your own country. Most small shops want the second: tax at home, nothing added on an export.
