Questions and answers

About selling online

Money, delivery, stock and refunds.

When do I get the money?

It goes into your own Stripe account immediately and pays out to your bank on Stripe's normal schedule — usually a couple of days. It never passes through us and we take no percentage of any sale.

Do you take a cut of what I sell?

No. You pay a monthly amount for the site and the shop; what you sell is yours. Stripe charges its own processing fee, which comes out of each payment before it reaches you.

Who handles a chargeback?

Stripe does, on your account, and they will contact you about it. We are not the merchant of record, which is deliberate — it is also why the money reaches you directly.

Do I have to charge tax?

That depends on where you are and what you sell, and it is genuinely your accountant's question rather than ours. The shop can add no tax, one rate you set, or let Stripe work it out from the customer's address. Whatever you charge is yours to declare.

Somebody bought the last one twice.

They cannot. Stock comes down inside the same transaction that records the order, so two people cannot both get the last one. If an item shows as sold out that you know you have, the count is wrong — correct it on the product.

Can I sell downloads?

Not yet. There is no way to attach a file to a product, so the option is not offered. If you need it, ask us.

Can people collect instead of paying postage?

Yes — add a “collected in person” rate with your address and opening times. It is never chosen for somebody automatically, so nobody ends up expecting a parcel that was never posted.

A customer wants a refund.

Open the order, enter the amount or leave it as the whole thing, choose whether the items go back into stock, and press Refund. It goes back on their card and they get a letter saying so. Usually five to ten working days, depending on their bank.
